ALLEGHANY — November 2, 2026. Sierra County says the November 3, 2026 general election has no designated conventional polling places. Voters in Alleghany and elsewhere in the county are being served through mail ballots and the county’s official ballot return system.
How to return a ballot
The county lists a ballot drop box at the courthouse, 100 Courthouse Square in Downieville, available on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Its elections office at the same address also lists Election Day hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents should account for mountainous travel conditions.
Accessible voting options
The county says voters can obtain accessible assistance and use Remote Accessible Vote by Mail. Its elections office can explain accommodations and replacement ballot procedures; contact 530-289-3295.
A warning about outdated drop-box addresses
The county moved its eastern-area drop box from Loyalton City Hall to Sierraville School. That change is relevant to anyone traveling across the county; always use current official instructions.
